Going Down (November Edition)

West Ham

Since the arrival of former Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola on the 15th September the club has gone from bad to worse. The Italian has had a negative effect (so far) and the club has fallen down the table after a promising start to the season.

With the economy in turmoil and the clubs owners looking to save as much money as possible January could be a very rough month for The Hammers. I dont see them having the funds to improve the squad and whilst they have a good set of players, i fear they may be raided by other clubs looking to push on up the table.

Zola for all his charecter doesnt have the experience or know how to really suceed at this level and i fear the big wigs may well be regretting the decision to let Curbs walk away.

West Brom

If you were asked to predict which of the three newly promoted clubs would stay up at the start of the season, you would have taken West Brom all day long. They have a good british manager in charge ( best accent ever i might add ) and play some good football but seem incapable of putting the ball into the net regularly enough to really stand a chance of staying up.

With half the league seemingly capable of going down this season, they could avoid the drop if they invest in a striker during the coming transfer window, but if they miss the boat i can only see another season in the championship for them.

Bolton

This was by far and away the hardest of the three to pick. Realistically it could be any team out of (Fulham,Pompey, Wigan, Stoke, Sunderland, Newcastle and even Hull who i do not yet feel are secure).

Alot has been said about Gary Megson at Bolton. He had a brilliant record with WBA in The Championship but never managed to translate that into a respectible Premiership one. I have faith in the manager to make them competitive but i do wonder if he has enough to take them to the next level.

After spending a large amount of money ( £10m if im correct ) on Elmander in the summer alot was expected of the Swedish forward. They have only managed to score 6 goals at home so far this season, if they want to stay up that has to improve.

And A Mention To..

This season looks like it could be a 'corker'. With atleast 13 teams looking less than brilliant so far. The league table shows us that the gap from bottom ( WBA ' 11 ' ) and the 11th placed ( Sunderland '15') being only 4 points.

Tottenham should be OK. I dont buy this 'Harry Houdini' crap. They were simply underperforming whilst Ramos was in charge at WHL. He has got them playing fairly well of late, although they are getting alot of lucky bounces ( or slips * see Clichy v Spurs * and Liverpool hitting the woodwork 3 times 3 days later*).

Blackburn could be the outsiders choice to go down. They lost Big Bad Brad in the summer and he was a massive player for them. Robinson is a good solid keeper but i do wonder if they will miss the experience of BBB. Im still not sure on Ince at this level, imo he would have been better of staying for atleast one more season at MK, saying that i dont blame him for taking his chance at a top premiership club.

Image: http://i36.tinypic.com/3145g5t.png

For a man who has nurtured prodigy’s such as Beckham, Giggs and Ronaldo amongst many others, some could have been heard to whisper negatives about his purchase of Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov. For a man branded by his former employers as “selfish”, his acquisition could have caused great unrest in the champions dressing room. However for a man stationed at the helm of the club for over 22 years, Sir Alex was confident his purchase would reek the positives and only enhance his side, who on record are the best team in Europe.

With the Old Trafford faithful graced with Best’s magical runs, Cantona’s memorable antics, Berbatov seemed to don some pressures on his broad soldiers. Some of this pressure was lifted as Berbatov exploded onto the Red Devil scene with a well worked assist for Tevez against bitter rivals Liverpool. In a position where most players would give into the pressure omitted from the Liverpool defenders, Dimitar calmly switched the ball to the far post where the scar ridden Argentine was on hand to get the first goal of the game. Unfortunantley United succumb to Liverpool’s persistent pressure and fell to a damaging loss at Anfield.

Since then Man Utd and Berbatov in particular have went from strength to strength destroying teams in their path, bar Everton. So when face to face with West Ham, a side under leadership of possibly one of the greatest players to grace these shores, Berbatov took centre stage. When a Andersson through ball gathered to much pace, Berbatov approached the ball, on the bye line, and with one combined movement left fans and critics alike breathless. So after a couple of matches into his new chapter in football, the man born in Blagoevgrad seems to have removed his name from Fergusons questionable transfers.

My idol has an addiction. One of the more common addictions, no not chocolate Drug addiction. My idol hangs around with Underworld Criminals. My hero has been caught up in numerous scandals including running from his car before an alcohol/drug test, testing positive for banned substances, being sacked from his football club & being linked to a murder.

But I love him because. He was man enough to admit all these things. He's often rubbished for the things he did, but he wasnt one to sit on his ass and just continue to cop the flack. He did something about it. First was getting his social life back on track. Something that isnt easy, a long and mentally tough process then the toughest of all. Beating his addiction. Everybody in common society knows that drug addiction is a horrific thing and its no mean feat to overcome. My idol has done this. Now he's going to return to the football.

How do you solve a problem like Wayne Rooney?

Countless have tried to unlock the obvious talents of the ‘Boy Wonder’, none have had consistent success since the much-maligned Sven. Rooney has been a popular topic of discussion recently, with both club and country having their say on how to play Wayne, as to get the best out of him. Rooney was at his best in 2005 when he had his most productive season playing in a rigid 4-4-2 formation, behind Ruud Van Nistlerooy. Rooney was the focal point of the side, using Ruud as a decoy to cause havoc amongst opposition defences. Since then, everything in Wayne’s World has seemed to go downhill. I will now look at the various factors affecting the below-par performances of Rooney in the last few years and how best to utilise him.

In recent years Manchester United have adopted a fluid 4-3-3 formation, allowing Tevez, Ronaldo and Giggs to roam around the pitch causing problems for the opposition. Their creative, inventive attacking play drew many plaudits from the media. Playing in such an interchangeable fashion allowed United to play Rooney in a centre forward position, sacrificing his own tally to increase that of both Tevez and Ronaldo. Wayne didn’t seem to process the tactical awareness to fill such a specialist role. He appears to get frustrated at long spells without being involved and comes deep in search of the ball. This takes away the balance of the United side, leaving nobody filling the strikers birth. If Rooney is to become a world-class centre forward, he needs to learn the importance of tactical shape and balance at top level football. Rooney must become a shrewder operator, saving his energy for a burst on goal, rather than charging back chasing the ball. This is perhaps the area for Rooney to concentrate on, improving his understanding of the responsibilities involved with the lone forward role.

Rooney also seems to be feeling the effects of his pre-mature burst onto the scene. Wayne was thrust firmly into the limelight after ‘that’ goal against Arsenal and ‘that’ excellent Euro 2004 campaign. He then earned himself a transfer to Man United, for whom he has been a regular since. The vigorous demands Rooney buts his body under seems to have taken its toll ever so slightly. It has become noticeable that Rooney has lost that ‘extra’ yard of pace that made him so deadly when running in behind defences. This could be because of his injury history, with several niggles throughout the last two seasons including several broken feet. It would appear that nursing Wayne back to full fitness after an injury could help him maintain his physical talents that made him such a special talent. Wayne Rooney has also seems to be dogged with weight issues, quite often carrying a few excess pounds, which could be due to his frequent injuries or his off-the-pitch lifestyle. Several allegations have been levelled at Wayne regarding his relationship with Coleen and the late night arguments they regularly have, which too could have a profound affect on the performances of Rooney.

Rooney is such a special talent that he cannot be ignored, utilising him to the best of his ability would be of obvious benefit to Sir Alex at United. It is widely believed that Rooney is best when playing behind a target man, something Manchester United does not have at present. However, they have been strongly linked to Dimitar Berbatov, who would make a perfect partner for Rooney. Both players are intelligent and would complement each other, with Wayne able to drop deep safe in the knowledge that Berbatov would lead the line competently. Whilst Ronaldo is out injured (till November) United have found goals hard to come by, bringing in an experienced striker would improve their fortunes ten fold. With Dimitar leading the line, it would allow both Rooney and Tevez to roam in behind, creating chances for all around. The immediate signing would only serve to improve Wayne’s fortunes, allowing him to return to his natural position.

This season is such a crucial one for Rooney, as many pundits are calling his talent and dedication into doubt. Wayne now has to deliver; both United and England are relying on him to produce the goods. He simply has to perform. No excuses on the club front, as soon he will have a recognised front man to play in behind. Only a sensational season will do, after a below par effort last time. Rooney must silence his doubters and guide both United and England to success. 20 goals, 4 trophies and qualification. We’re all waiting Wayne…

Moggliopoli

Serie A has one of the most attractive, enthralling histories, one which details many a title race and documents several splendid players. For decades people have basked in the glory of Serie A, the ‘Promised Land’ for any professional footballer. The greats moved there, Boniek, Platini and later, Maradona. Many Premier League players were swapping their hometown clubs for the glamour of Serie A. Fans were excited to see the top clubs battle season upon season, records were made, records were broken. However, their rich heritage was brought into disrepute in 2006 when 5 clubs and over 20 officials were charged as part of an investigation by Italian police into match fixing. According to reports the select teams were given favourable referees for crunch clashes.

Italian football has been here before, embroiled in a worldwide scandal. In 1973, the Sunday Times accused Juventus of attempting to bribe a referee during a quarter final with Derby County. Again in 1980, AC Milan and Lazio were relegated into Serie B after being charged with attempting to bribe opposition players into ‘throwing’ important matches. Genoa was also attached in the investigation and was forcibly relegated into Serie C. More recently, in 2005 Juventus were struck with claims of doping their players, a claim which Juventus strongly denied. It has not just been clubs tangled in the webs of deceit, but players too. Several players have been accused of ‘throwing’ matches and betting on the outcomes of matches involving themselves. In most recent times, Buffon, Maresca, Chimenti and Iuliano voluntarily met Parma magistrates for questioning in 2005 regarding gambling huge amounts of money on the outcomes of their own fixtures.

In 2006, football agency GEA World released several secret recordings which seemed to implicate Serie A’s top teams of match fixing – by way of selecting a favourable referee. Champions Juventus and other major teams such as; AC Milan, Lazio and Reggina were linked to a thick network of relations involving both team managers and high profile referees. This particular scandal was nicknamed ‘Moggiopoli’ after the main culprit Juventus General Manager Luciano Moggi, but also a pun on Tangentopoli which represents the corruption-based attitude in Italy during the 1980s. The media and fans alike called for the four clubs to be punished severely and all thrown out of Serie A. After a prolonged period of discussion in front of magistrates it was decided that only Juventus would be demoted to Serie B and the other sides would face a variety of point penalties and heavy fines. The sentence was long disputed because of the difference in punishment between Juventus and the other major teams involved. According to the court of conduct, the other teams were judged to violate sporting principles, whereas Juventus seemed to have the effect to influence match results in their favour. Juventus representatives considered this assumption totally arbitrary and never proved. The referee’s that were deemed ‘good’ by Moggi were also punished, Massimo De Santis, who was due to be at the World Cup, was barred, as was Adriano Galliani. The effect wasn’t just felt in the world of football, but in the media also. In addition to allegations of corruption and sports fraud by owners, managers, players, referees, and league officials, the presenter of popular soccer show, Aldo Biscardi resigned amid allegations that he collaborated with Luciano Moggi to boost the Juventus image on television. It was also rumoured that Moggi urged presenters to tinker with the footage to show his side as a better team than they in fact were. The Moggiopoli scandal’s effects where not only felt in Italy but all around the world. As Juventus were forced to sell their cut-price stars, it made the prices but on other player’s heads unacceptable. This made the particular summer I busy one, with many players moving on cut price deals; to compete with the talent on offer cheaply in Italy. That summer changed the way football is conducted today, as the football associations are keener to have a hand in any developments between clubs and referees.

In May 2006, telephone conversations (taped by the police) where released to the press.
"I know you've been forgetting about me, but I've been remembering you," Pairetto began. "I've put in a great referee for the Amsterdam game [against Ajax]."
"Who?"
"[Urs] Meier."
"Terrific," Moggi said.

The above conversation convinced many Italian fans what they had always suspected may be true. For decades, fans had debated how Juventus always seemed to get the luck at the right moments, how they always seemed to get the benefit of the doubt on the field. This brought into question every Serie A title Juventus had won, every offside decision, every penalty kick. This was not strange as, in every country; a successful side is greeted with the same resentment. However Juventus’s dubious links, made it difficult for the rumours to be proved entirely untrue. Juventus are as near as royalty as a football team can get, and rival fans believed that referees favoured them because of this. In fact, it was more sinister than that, as Moggi had a huge influence over the match officials. One of the more obvious moments was a clash against Roma, where they won the Serie A title thanks to a blatantly offside goal. Roma fans still look upon that even with bitterness as their conspiracy theories grew. Juventus continued to be rewarded with controversial decisions until an investigation took place in 2004. The transcripts from the investigation were leaked and they suggest that Moggi Senior had control over the whole of Serie A. That he was using a vast network on influence based on reciprocal favours. He was also accredited with the influence of naming the referees and linesman who would rule the Juventus games. Moggi also had the influence to urge a TV company to tamper with replays to hide a wrong decision that went in Juventus’s favour. This practice became common and named the ‘Moggi Method’ and as fellow clubs copied, the influence of Juventus fell. When the full transcripts were sent to the head prosecutor strangely nothing was done. Critics have since accused then president, Franco Carraro, of knowing about the ‘Moggi Method’ but doing nothing. This further strengthens the belief that not only could Moggi control each decision made, but also the conclusions the board of directors would reach. The ‘Moggi Method’ has been announced quintessentially Italian, as sucking up the people in power is an accepted part of Italian society. This brought everything about Juventus into turmoil, as fans refused to believe what they were reading.

The controversy however, did not end there. Juventus fans began to get frustrated at what they perceived as bias towards Inter. They were the main beneficiary of Juventus being relegated as they were announced champions despite finishing 3rd and they signed star players Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for cut price fees. To add to the controversy, the company that tapped the crucial phone conversations had the same President as Inter’s sponsor ‘Pirelli’. This may be Juventus fans clutching at straws, but several rumours seem to give weight to this theory.

Italy has survived several major scandals but still seems to be riddled with ego-tripped chairman, intent on controlling the whole division. The problems seem to go deep into the foundations on which the powerful clubs so rely and trying to eradicate those may have a detrimental effect on the lure of Italian football. Security has been tightened, to try and prevent such occurrences in the future, however I doubt this would have much effect. People are still motivated by power and money, allowing them to be manipulated to suit a certain need, I wouldn’t be surprised if such acts were taking place around the world, including our very own Premier League. Despite ‘Moggipoli’ being revealed to the public, I doubt we are any nearer to knowing the true ins and outs of Serie A or football in general.

“Together we made it; we made it even though we had our backs up against the wall” This song lyric could easily be applied to the remarkable story of my hometown club, Doncaster Rovers. In just over 10 years we have been transformed from the laughing stock of the Football League to a fondly looked upon Championship side.

In the late 1980s, Doncaster could be found languishing in the then fourth division. Struggling to stay in the black, Rovers were forced to continuously sell their prized assets. Consequently, they were defunct of any real progress forwards or backwards. This all changed when Mr. Ken Richardson bought the club in the early 1990s. He was treated as the saviour; he came with a vision and backed up those words with a constant but substantial cash injection. A new generation of players arrived and the club began to make real progress. Attendances were up and Richardson was the talk of the town. However, when Richardson failed to make the profits he was expecting he promptly withdrew his money and left the club in turmoil. Doncaster was forced to sell their star assets to even stay in the black. Rovers were relegated the following season and began a short stint in the Conference. Whilst in the Conference the chairman, Ken Richardson was arrested and charged with attempting to burn down the famous, Belle Vue. Richardson did this to try to re-coup his money by way of a insurance scam, he was promptly imprisoned on charges of arsine and fraud. Fans at the time were distraught, and showed their disgust by carrying a coffin to each home game, with ‘Doncaster Rovers’ etched onto the plaque. Around this time, Leeds was competing for both domestic and continental awards.

In 1998 another saviour arrived, the one and only John Ryan. A wealthy business man, owner of multiple plastic surgeries around Yorkshire, understood the need for a strong football club in the area and began rebuilding planning to propel the club back into the football league. Ryan backed his manager, Dave Penney, strongly in the transfer market. He funded moves for players such as: Paul Barnes, John Doolan and Jamie Patterson. After five years of solid work, the club gained promotion to the Football League via the Play-offs. Both Penney and Ryan were paraded around the city as heroes; they would never have to buy a drink again. There was a real buzz about Doncaster, as John Ryan again backed his manager financially. He funded moves for two proven goal-scorers, Gregg Blundell and Leo Fortune-West amongst other key signings. Despite being favourites for relegation, Doncaster went onto seal promotion and the league title, beating rivals Hull City to the crown. The football may not have been of the greatest quality, but it was effective. It made all those rainy Saturdays in an uncovered terrace seem worthwhile. Doncaster had a club to really be proud of. Rovers went onto prove the experts wrong by surviving in League 1 quite comfortably, finishing in 7th position. In 2006, Doncaster gained yet more positive publicity with an outstanding Carling Cup run, right through to the Quarter Final. They beat Man. City and Aston Villa comprehensively, before being beaten by a lucky Arsenal side on penalties. At last, Rovers began to make a profit with bumper crowds through the gates at an increasing rate. However, with all the success thrust upon them the dressing room began to split, with several high profile fallings out with the manager, including a 10 man punch up in a hotel in Spain. This was the beginning of the end of Dave Penney tenure as boss, as he was sacked the following season.

As far as potential successors go, Doncaster was pretty ambitious. Ryan talked of luring Peter Reid to Doncaster or even the home grown Kevin Keegan. However, the appointment they did make was to employ Sean O’Driscoll, a relative unknown. He had only ever managed one club in his whole career and voices of discontent began to be heard. After a poor start, O’Driscoll managed to take the club to its first major cup final, the Johnston’s Paint Trophy, which they subsequently won. This failed to paper over the cracks of a negative, passionless first season as boss. The whispers of discontent grew into abuse hurled at the staff team, the pressure was really on. After spending over 300k on players proven at this level or that he had worked with at his previous club, Bournemouth. We all awaited his first full season in charge. Unfortunately, it began the way the previous ended. The faithful bemoaned his negative tactics and passionless demure. A real make or break game approached, away at relegation battlers Crewe. Sources said a loss would spell the end of O’Driscoll’s reign, this was however quite the opposite. Rovers went on to win 4-0, in a resounding attacking display. From that point on Doncaster shot from 10th place, to 2nd in an un-matched winning streak. Their total football was applauded and people began to travel from far and wide to watch this unique, technical football at League 1. Doncaster went into their final game of the season knowing a win would see them through into the Championship. Conversely, Doncaster went on to have ‘one of those days’ against an inferior Cheltenham side, losing 3-2. Into the play-offs we went, our entire fan base believed this was our chance gone. Rovers demolished a strong Southend side 5-1, with undoubtedly the best performance of the season. Jamie Coppinger had really made himself a hero with that hat-trick, people would see my wearing my rover shirt and tell me how much of a gem Coppinger is. The final was on, the one everyone wanted to see. Doncaster Rovers v Leeds United. Little v Large. There was so many clichés that could apply to this game. Just huge. Promotion to Championship was secured after a sensational display to beat Leeds 1-0. Rovers had done it; they had reached their promised land. All the targets John Ryan set himself had been achieved, with finesse. Doncaster was described as the best component of the beautiful game this side of the Premiership. Some feat.

Moreover, once the elation had gone, we truly realised what we had achieved, from the Conference to the Championship in just 5 years. Does it get any better? An honest, yet brutal answer would be no. John Ryan no longer has the fund to make us the ambitious, rich club we were in the Lower Leagues. We have reached our promised land, could we really go any further? We had lost our only player still from the Conference, Paul Green, poached by Derby. This was our realisation were we honestly are know, in the big leagues. Rovers have only signed one player this summer, he was on a free. Is this necessarily better? It was much more exciting during our climb, and the season tickets were a hell of a lot cheaper. Have our best days gone by? It all looks to be downhill from here. We need a saviour...

Imagine just for a tender moment, that The Citizens had succeeded in their ambitious attempts of luring the greatest showboat of them all.

A player thwarted with a distinct appearance but religiously blessed with two talented feet. To the Eastland’s, carrying his samba in toe. A player who would make a impact in comparison to a friendly earthquake, for a impact never seen before in these neck of the woods, descending onto the luscious blades of grass grown in umpteen stadiums up and down the country. Just for a moment though you can picture him and his trademark no look passes featured on consistent football show, Match of the Day.

However after a couple of seconds the positive effect of the imagination wears off, as you gradually come to terms that his two front teeth will be seen by Italian’s, and the colours of his home strip will not be ones painted blue, for they will be striped featuring the emblem of AC, and painted in a red/black fashion. His carefully designed boots will stand honourably next to those of names such as Kaka and Maldini not names of Elano and such sort.

So why. Why did the player who’s career had reached his peak but failed to stay at the climate, reject a fresh start, and a chance to stretch the palms of his hand and take away the English’s breaths away. Taking them home with him, storing them in a jar, almost acting as a accolade of his achievements. Was it money, playing its cruel wrinkled hand again, no. For City offered more of a financial benefit to him than those of the Rossoneri. He rejected because he wasn’t a mano enough to face up to the risk of becoming the spearhead of a Welshman’s army. He instead was brainwashed by the blinding San Siro lights and the fashion labelled shops, which surround the stadium in almost a strangling fashion. A move which robbed many Blues fans of fond memories, ones which could be replayed to generation to generation through the acts of words and images. Robbed them the chance to travel to the deepest region of the Red part of Manchester, with a smile forming on their rosed faces.

Ronaldinho is the burglar in this story, robbing the English public.

I'm not talking about Fernando 'on everyones lips' Torres, Captain Marvel, Fantastic, Sour Pineapple Yoghurt or whatever they name him, and the sunken ship of Liverpool.

I'm on about David Moyes and his lads.

They can be quite the force to reckon with next season. Topping a delightful 5th spot finish wouldn't be easy and to replenish something that looks cutting edge isn't your everyday cup of tea. Hopefully overprizing raw talent in form of Joleon Lescott is the first step to that. His performances were mint last season, and can the Premiership's most deadly finisher (statistically indeed) team up with Phil Jagielka next year something special might be in store for them Merseyside boys.

It's not all about the defense though.

Midfield magic credited Barca outcast Mikel Arteta supplied by the creativity of Tiny Tim Cahill could next season do the trick for the Champions League if one of them goes through the entire season without an injury. Add to that the permanent signing of Steven Pienaar who was outstanding with his gamebreaking defensive playing style at Goodison Park, controlling the game in and out with crucial passing qualities and a top notch movement pattern.

Striking force credited goal machine Yakubu Aiyegbeni (let's hope his goals come in handier than his name would be to spell - and fortunately for the blue scousers they do). Some delight firing Everton to a respectable fifth, next year one of the infamous big four may tremble and if tough scotchman Moyes can use that to his advantage even greater glory awaits.

Who can't help but love the Toffees? Even hardman Sylvester Stallone does. Hey, it might do the trick.

FGL Announcement!

Basically, I am looking for a team of non-participants in the FGL to help me to judge the entries. There will still be the votes from other members via PM to me which decide who wins the battle but these are "Bonus Points".

These judges will vote on the top three in each round on different criterions:

*Originality - This is to encourage artists to try new things and be creative, the judge panel will vote on the top three most original pieces of each round and the artists will score points. You will recieve 3 bonus points if you are voted number one for originality, two for number two and one for number three. This voting will be weekly.

*Quality - This is voting on purely the best executed and most appealing graphic to look at. Once again, you will score three points if you are voted number one, two for number two and one for number three. This will be weekly, also.

*Consistency - This is voting on the most consistent artist over a number of weeks. The consistency can be in simply entering every week, producing excellent art or constant originality. This voting will take place every three weeks and the winner will recieve 5 bonus points, there are no runner-ups.

*Improvement - This will be the artist who shows the most improvement in their graphic ability over a number of rounds. This voting will take place every six rounds and the winner will recieve 2 bonus points.

If you would like to be on the panel of judges, please post here, or in the thread below or PM me. Please note that you cannot be a participant and be on the panel. :).

*LEWIS HAMILTON silenced his critics by winning the British Grand Prix.*

Hamilton has been under increasing pressure after failing to live up to expectations following his breathtaking debut season last year.
But the McLaren ace bounced back in style by taking the chequered flag at Silverstone.
Hamilton finished over a minute ahead of BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld with Rubens Barrichello third in his Honda.
The Brit is now level on points at the top of the standings with Felipe Massa, who could only manage 13th, and reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who was fourth.
A delighted Hamilton said: “It is by far the best victory I’ve ever had.
“The conditions were bad and as I was driving I thought, 'If I win this, it will be the best race I’ve ever done’.
“On my last lap, I could see the crowd starting to rise to their feet and I was just praying, praying, praying I could get the car round.
“I want to dedicate this to my family because we all know I’ve had some troubles of late, so this is for them.”
McLaren boss Ron Dennis hailed Hamilton's disciplined drive on a rain-sodden track.
And he believes the performance was the perfect response to those who had questioned the 23-year-old's ability.
Dennis said: “It’s tough because you’re trying to do your best all the time and you’re surrounded by armchair experts who just constantly apply pressure.
“You have to put that out of your mind and concentrate on the job — and he’s done a good job.
"But we had to really, really keep the pace down.
“He could have gone much quicker and the last 15 laps he was complaining at having to drive too slowly.
“It’s very easy to make mistakes in those conditions."

Transfer Talk 5-7-2008

Image: http://img.skysports.com/08/06/218x298/Ronaldo_970915.jpg

To date Sir Alex has yet to bring any fresh faces into his title winning setup. Instead he faces a more challenging task, a one where if he loses, the very heartbeat of his side will be ripped out, in front of his glazed eyes. Cristiano Ronaldo is the heartbeat. A one in which Spanish giants Real Madrid are pursuing. The Portuguese winger is someone who every manager could only dream of having in there squad. However Madrid are one of the few who can muster the funds to acquire his services. The men who feature behind the scenes in the Spanish capital have openly admitted they are doing all they possibly can to make Ronaldo a "El Galatico" and rub shoulders with household names, such has Raul, Robinho and others. These events have infuriated Ferguson who believes Real Madrid are trying to unsettle Cristiano and in doing so make him file a transfer request. These allegations have been reported to FIFA and United are hoping Real receive the consequences.

Due to the fact that Gerard Pique is the only player to leave Old Trafford who featured in the successful campaign in the past season, if they hold onto Ronaldo, the squad will feature the same names as last years. In doing so Sir Alex gains the knowledge of knowing he has a team capable of conquering again. However it is been reported over the last week that Ferguson is very keen to attract a Dutchman to Old Trafford. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has emerged as United's main transfer target. Huntelaar is seen as prolific goal scorer in his native homeland and is a key figure in Ajax's squad. If the reports are true it would certainly be a positive for Red Devil fans. Seeing as over the last couple of seasons United's top goalscorer award has fell to winger Ronaldo. Unfortunately both Rooney and Tevez have failed to make a big impact on the goal factor, and bringing in Klaas would seem to resolve this problem. The 24 year old has admitted he would love to join United. He said "I love clubs with great history like Ajax, I also love United," Huntelaar told Dutch reporters. "It's a club that makes me dream, especially as Ruud van Nistelrooy played there and did great things with them.

Huntelaar is seen as Ferguson's only transfer target, or is Alex playing his cards close to his chest and not showing his hand until the latter stages of the transfer market. Moreover Ferguson has a agonizing decision to make, pocket the reported 70 million from Ronalo's transfer but dismantle the structure that took many years to form again. Or keep Ronaldo, a player who can weave through defenders, place breathtaking shots in oppositions nets. However Ronaldo may end up unhappy and as a result may not reach the high standard of football which was showcased last season. The choice will certainly be a difficult one.

In New Music We Trust

In this blog i will feature artists/songs which have caught my eye and also my ears, some may be old some may be new, same may even be unknown, btw all subtitles posses links for the band

Wave Machine - I Go I Go I Go (http://www.myspace.com/mywavemachine)
A really catchy song which i first heard on Colin Murray Radio 1 show, which by the way is a really good show, anyways the songs is not my normal cup of tea but is something which makes you want to get up and move to, click the sub title to direct you to their myspace and the single i featured is the top one

Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip (http://www.myspace.com/lesacvspip)
A very unique type of music that i have grown to like, its different i can tell you that, but in my opinion god dam good, be sure to check out "Thou Shall Always Kill" also again click the subtitle to direct to the myspace

The Last Shadow Puppets - Standing Next To Me (http://www.myspace.com/thelastshadowpuppets)
The lyrical magician Alex Turner showcases his musical ability again, this time with the aid of friend Miles Kane. The duo collabed to form the group, however to some the album may be a let down, but for me i think it is decent, nothing special but decent, anyways Standing Next To Me is a really great song

Good Shoes (http://www.myspace.com/goodshoes)
a indie band herald from a little town called Morden. All their songs are bloody great, but "We Are Not The Same" and "Never Meant To Hurt You" are there best in my opinion, go check them out your missing out if you don't, there album is out aswell

Tv On The Radio - Wolf Like Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUB1xSAAADk)
a song which for me posses a ability to get you motivated and pumped up, would be great for a excerise regime or before a football match like i do, click the sub title to listen to it

Game Rebellion ft J Period - Back Down (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xuPPJUAipg)
same as above really motavting song, features on the new movie "Street Kings" and is the first ever mixtape to be the main song on a blockbuster movie.

Thats all folks, btw a great site i found if you want to download myspace music
www.downloadmyspacemusic.co.uk/
just follow the instructions and you may have to rename the file though

EURO 08: The return of beautiful football?

Hi, I'll introduce myself: I'm Glasher I live in Canada moved from Marseille, France 4 years ago. My grammar might be a bit bad for this but hey I try!

Like probably most of you I've watched the EURO games. And for most parts I was pretty much exited! Why? It seems that beautiful football is back and it's back with success. Proof of that is watching boring boring France(witch destroyed me being French) and Italy who opted for playing a boring defensive 10 man behind the ball type of tactic witch obviously was boring and miserably failed at the same time.

Spain, Russia, Holland...I could stop their and most of you would understand. Watching these teams play was simply fantastic and specially Holland vs France where it was probably the most beautiful game to watch in this tournament. The way the Holland team passed the ball around how it seemed so easy for them to find anyone on the field all seemed to be done by instinct.

But this EURO also witness what I like to call the new "Stubborn Tactic" played by Turkey and Croatia. They played some really decent football by what was the most inspiring and dedicated team work that made those two but most specially Turkey fun to watch. I'm serious in this statement that probably most of the "big country" behind down 2 nil would have just abandon the game...not Turkey. But THE perfect example of that was, even tho they lost, was versus Germany. I will probably won't make friends saying that Turkey SHOULD have won and be in the final with all the heart they put even with 8 players not available(some being their key players) and almost snatching the victory and showed the German how to play because let's be honest Turkey dominated Germany.

Spain, what more can I tell their pool of playing is just plain exaggerated how much it's filled with potential and immense talent. This EURO finally proved the critics wrong. Having a mix of young(Villa, Torres, Ramos, Fabregas) and old experience(Senna, Xavi, Marchena, Puyol Cassilas) and playing the possesion type of tactic moving the ball around beautifully in a way that only Spain seems to be capable. No wonder why 8 of their player made the best 23 squad of the EURO.

Hope you liked my first blog ever being a bit hard for me to type since I'm a frenchy :P.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? are a British electro-rock band from Reading.
i think their debut album "You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into" is quite good.

i feel their sound is new wave.i love new wave.so i like them.
but it's not main reason.they have so good talent imo.their sound is mixed rock and electro completely.i think it is difficult to accomplish.

if you like them,i recommend artists below.
Klaxons,Justice,Digitalism,MSTRKRFT,and Metallica.

you say Metallica don't sound like them?
you must listen With a Heavy Heart (I Regret To Inform You).

really heaviness!

Callum's Spotlight On Graphics

I will do a series of blog introducing my opinions of Graphics, as well as this i will post some works which caught my eye, and give a brief description of what i think about it. copying of Szymon :D

Image: http://i31.tinypic.com/lgs94_th.jpg (http://i31.tinypic.com/lgs94.jpg)
Cesc Fabregas designed by o2

A really elegant eye catching wall from our GD o2. The combination of colorful abstract textures which can be seen in the background, gives the wall a really nice tone of colour, and makes it more appealing. Even though the introduction of a tree seems a strange idea, it is a nice feature and makes the render receive more focus. The lighting is used effectively and the funky text works well. A brilliant wallpaper in my opinion.

Image: http://xs228.xs.to/xs228/08263/nasfunky467.jpg
Nas designed by Superstar/Ach
A really good signature, which shows you that using various stocks can be used effectively, Ach went freestyle with the stocks and used different effects and the end result is great. The render is nice and clean and gives the sig a focal point. Amazing sig to think that ach hasn't made anything for a long time.

_Tips_
Always try to be creative in your works, try to create new styles, and try new things, be original in your work and you will receive more praise and respect than if you followed the same whored style. Also try experiments, listen to music, watch music videos, look at art etc, and open up photoshop and just experiment try new things, and don't be afraid to post up your experiments etc. Good luck from Callum

A eery mist of under achievement descended its cold body onto the alpine countries. It swept through the tournament with its icy chill, sweeping household names of there gold studded feet. In times where we thought we would be reminiscing over a Ronaldo trademark free kick. Idolizing the way he caresses the ball effortlessly over the jagged defenders heads, changing directions umpteen times in mid air. Before arriving at the destination, in which Ronaldo intended the flight to reach. The top corner of the flailing keepers net. Or Thierry Henry exploding into blistering pace, torching defenders with his burning speed. Or Ballack being in likeness to a gladiator, preparing his team for the fight of there lives. Occurring his strength on every blade of glass, pushing opposition to the floor as if there body consisted of feathers and there weight would struggle in a competition with a single ant. You look upon these events and notify yourself, that they have not took place in the thousands of pixels scattering your television screens. Instead we are in awe of not just individuals but whole nations who have gracefully demolished the title which they had been branded with " The Underdogs". Unlikely candidates have been nominated for the player of the tournament. One being the Croatian magician, Luka Modric. Modric's free flowing football, trick filled runs, daring attempts at goal will all descend on the Premier League in the upcoming season. Modric will become the orchestra of Spurs attacking minded side. The possibility of Modric's inspired runs could yet be finished by Berbatov, is a one which casts nightmares in managers sleep. Who would of thought it, the man herald from Zadar, Croatia would cast Ronaldo, Benzema, Pirlo and co to the deepest shadows of the alps. Modric is yet to show his exquisite piece of music to the English league. However in likeness to the great Beethoven, when he performs the breathtaking notes, audiences across England will stand from there seats and applaud. So as Ronaldo and other leave the tournaments filled with heartache and agonizing over the way they performed. Players like Modric and Podolski will walk out of the mist with their heads held high.
