EURO 08: The return of beautiful football?

Posted 06-30-2008 at 11:30 PM by Glasher
Hi, I'll introduce myself: I'm Glasher I live in Canada moved from Marseille, France 4 years ago. My grammar might be a bit bad for this but hey I try!

Like probably most of you I've watched the EURO games. And for most parts I was pretty much exited! Why? It seems that beautiful football is back and it's back with success. Proof of that is watching boring boring France(witch destroyed me being French) and Italy who opted for playing a boring defensive 10 man behind the ball type of tactic witch obviously was boring and miserably failed at the same time.

Spain, Russia, Holland...I could stop their and most of you would understand. Watching these teams play was simply fantastic and specially Holland vs France where it was probably the most beautiful game to watch in this tournament. The way the Holland team passed the ball around how it seemed so easy for them to find anyone on the field all seemed to be done by instinct.

But this EURO also witness what I like to call the new "Stubborn Tactic" played by Turkey and Croatia. They played some really decent football by what was the most inspiring and dedicated team work that made those two but most specially Turkey fun to watch. I'm serious in this statement that probably most of the "big country" behind down 2 nil would have just abandon the game...not Turkey. But THE perfect example of that was, even tho they lost, was versus Germany. I will probably won't make friends saying that Turkey SHOULD have won and be in the final with all the heart they put even with 8 players not available(some being their key players) and almost snatching the victory and showed the German how to play because let's be honest Turkey dominated Germany.

Spain, what more can I tell their pool of playing is just plain exaggerated how much it's filled with potential and immense talent. This EURO finally proved the critics wrong. Having a mix of young(Villa, Torres, Ramos, Fabregas) and old experience(Senna, Xavi, Marchena, Puyol Cassilas) and playing the possesion type of tactic moving the ball around beautifully in a way that only Spain seems to be capable. No wonder why 8 of their player made the best 23 squad of the EURO.

Hope you liked my first blog ever being a bit hard for me to type since I'm a frenchy :P.
