Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been named as the Barclays Premiership Player of the Year.

Although it has been a below-par campaign for Arsene Wenger's Gunners in the league, the French striker's performances have remained exceptional.

Henry is currently the leading scorer in The Premiership with 24 goals and has bagged two or more goals no less than eight times this season.

The former Juventus striker surpassed Cliff Bastin's club goal-scoring record in October before becoming the first Gunner to net 200 goals for the North Londoners.

Henry still has a key part to play with Arsenal looking to pip Tottenham to fourth spot, despite trailing Martin Jol's side by one point going into the last game of the season.

"Henry has graced Arsenal's last season at Highbury in magnificent style," said Matt Appleby of the Barclays Awards Panel.

"He combines moments of brilliance and entertainment with match-winning goals. No wonder he was described by one opposition manager as 'unplayable'."

I highly doubt he will be going to Real Madrid.

Thats absolutely great for Henry, he really deserves that award. He has played some excellent football this year and I can't wait to watch him again. I think that somebody that has been left in the dust or in the shadows this year though is Ruud Van Nistelrooy, he has not gotten any awards but yet is one of the most consisten and tactically sound players around. Well congrats again to Henry

Yeah, you're right. He kind of gets lost at Manchester United, though, especially with Rooney, whereas Henry is the main stalwart for Arsenal.

Henry really deserves it. I think he'll stay with Arsenal regardless of the outcome of the CL. Arsenal has many young players that will only get better,and Henry can be the man at Arsenal and guide them to much more success.
